Entre septembre 1939 et mai 1945, des milliers d’avions, chasseurs et autres bombardiers, de bateaux et de chars ont disparu sur leurs théâtres d’opérations respectifs, en France, en Allemagne, en Afrique du Nord et en Russie. Certains se sont crashés dans des déserts, des champs, en mer ou dans des marécages. Les navires ont coulé corps et âme avec leur cargaison et leurs matelots. Les chars se sont embourbés dans des tourbières ou ont été détruits puis enterrés pour combler les trous d’obus. Ils sont tous restés là, en place. Ils y sont encore ! Aux quatre coins du Monde, des hommes et des femmes enquêtent pour localiser leur position, les mettre au jour et retrouver leurs équipages. Ils étudient les rapports, recueillent les témoignages, sondent le sous-sol, les fonds marins, en quête du moindre indice permettant de les retrouver. Ils y parviennent la plupart du temps, refaisant surgir du passé des vestiges oubliés, exhumant souvent des corps auxquels ils redonnent un nom, une sépulture. Cette série documentaire se propose de suivre ces enquêtes fascinantes. A travers les archives mais surtout sur le terrain, les téléspectateurs vivent l’intensité d’une aventure humaine qui permet de retracer l’épopée et la fin tragique de certains héros de la seconde guerre mondiale. Un instant d’Histoire surgit alors des profondeurs du passé, ressuscitant ses acteurs en même temps que les vestiges de la guerre…
Between September 1939 and May 1945, thousands of planes, fighters and other bombers, ships and tanks disappeared on their respective areas of operations, in France, Germany, North Africa and Russia. Some crashed in deserts, fields, at sea or in swamps. The ships sank with their cargo and sailors. The tanks got stuck in bogs or were destroyed and then buried to fill the shell holes. They all stayed there, in place. They’re still in there! Around the world, men and women are investigating to locate their positions, uncover them and find their crews. They study the reports, collect the testimonies, survey the basement, the sea floor, in search of the slightest clue to find them. They do this most of the time, resurrecting forgotten remains from the past, often exhuming bodies to which they give a name, a burial. This documentary series is intended to follow these fascinating investigations. Through the archives, but especially in the field, viewers are experiencing the intensity of a human adventure that makes it possible to trace the epic and the tragic end of certain heroes of the Second World War. A moment of history then arises from the depths of the past, resurrecting its actors at the same time as the vestiges of the war
